Performance Evaluation of WeChat Video Call Service in Live HSPA+ Network

In this paper, a field test platform called OTTCAP (OTT Services Capture and Analyze Platform) is developed for capturing and analyzing QoS (Quality of Service) and QoE (Quality of Experience) parameters of OTT (over-the-top) services in HSPA+ (Evolved High Speed Packet Access) networks, including Network-Level and Application-Level QoS parameters, terminal parameters and wireless environment parameters. With the help of OTTCAP, the performance of WeChat video call service is compared and analyzed in both directions under three typical scenarios from the perspectives of QoS and QoE. The results, methods and tools of this paper can be used by operators and OTT services providers for network and service optimization. Keywords-Field Test; HSPA+; OTT; QoS; QoE; WeChat
